1. Check Device Compatibility

1. Click on the Finder Icon located in the Dock of your Mac.
2. On the next screen, click on AirDrop > and then click on Turn ON WIFI and Bluetooth button.
Note: In case WiFi is already enabled on your Mac, you will see Turn on Bluetooth button. Similarly, in case Bluetooth is enabled, you will see Turn ON WiFi button.
3. Allow Everyone
AirDrop provides you with the option to Share Data with Contacts only and also with Everyone.
Choosing Contacts only mode can sometimes cause problems. Hence, follow the steps below to Share Data with everyone.
1. Click on the Finder Icon located in the Dock of your Mac.
2. Next, click on AirDrop > Allow me to be discovered by Everyone and select Everyone in the little menu that appears.
Similarly, make sure that Allow Everyone option is enabled on the other Mac that you are transferring Data to.
In case you are AirDropping to iPhone, go to Settings > General > AirDrop > tap on Everyone option.
4. Sign into iCloud on Both Devices
In case you still want to use Contacts Only Mode, make sure that both the sending and receiving device are signed into iCloud.
Also, the Email ID or the Telephone Number associated with iCloud Account must be available in Contact List of both devices.
5. Turn OFF Do Not Disturb Mode
AirDrop does not work in case Do Not Disturb Mode is enabled. Hence, follow the steps below to disable Do Not Disturb Mode on Mac.
1. Click on the Notifications Icon located at the top right corner of your screen and toggle OFF the option for Do Not Disturb Mode.
2. In case you are using AirDrop to transfer data from Mac to iPhone, make sure that Do Not Disturb Mode is disabled on the receiving device (iPhone).
Go to Settings > Do Not Disturb > Disable Do Not Disturb.
6. Check Firewall Settings
AirDrop cannot work, in case “Block All Incoming Communications” option is turned ON in the Firewall Settings of your Mac.
1. Click on Apple Icon > System Preferences.
2. On System Preferences Screen, click on Security & Privacy.
3. On the Security & Privacy screen, click on the Firewall tab and then click on Firewall Options button.

7. Check Distance Between Devices
Make sure that the device that you are trying to AirDrop to is available within 30 feet (9 meters) of the device that you are AirDropping from.
In certain cases, Bluetooth reception might be weaker than normal or blocked by obstacles (such as concrete walls).
In such cases, you may have to move the devices even closer to each other in order to improve Bluetooth reception.
8. Prevent Mac From Going to Sleep
AirDrop can fail if your Mac is set to go to sleep as soon as its display switches off after a set period of inactivity. Hence, follow the steps below to prevent your computer from going to sleep, when the display is OFF.
1. Click on Apple Logo in the top menu bar > System Preferences > Energy Saver
2. On the next screen, click on Power Adapter > select Prevent computer from sleeping automatically when the display is off option.
In case you are using AirDrop while on Battery, click on the Battery Tab and select Prevent computer from sleeping automatically option for Battery as well.
